5TH ANNUAL BANANA Cycling Classic

Sunday October 18th, 2009 

SPECIFIC REGULATIONS 

ARTICLE 1. ORGANIZATION 

The 5TH ANNUAL BANANA Cycling Classic is organized by the Sagitun  Cycling Club  under the regulations of the International Cycling Union and BCA.  It is to be held on Sunday, 18th October, 2009. The following races will be held:

    9:05 a.m. Junior/Youth 2 $20.00
    9:15 a.m. Females and  Masters 4/5  2 $20.00
 

Route: 

Elite/U23 

The Start/Finish Line is at the SENter building by the Triangular Park 

Start from the SENter, turn right down the Southern Highway toward Dangriga….. go 8 miles to San Juan Village and then turn around at the Curva Bar, travel back to the PG Junction …. turn right down towards P.G . for 6 miles to Bella Vista Village… turn back from Bella Visa to the P.G. Junction and turn right from there towards Independence all the way to BIG CREEK to complete 1 lap 

Turn back from BIG CREEK straight back down the road to San Juan …. turn there at Curva Bar to the PG Junction … again to Bella Vista …. turn again back to the P.G. Junction, all the way to BIG CREEK again…. Turn there back to San Juan, turn at Curva Bar, then race back to the SENter for the finish.  (80 miles) 

Junior/Youth, Females, Masters 4/5 

Start from the SENter turn left to BIG CREEK … turn around and go straight for 8 miles to San Juan village …  turn at Curva Bar and travel back to the P.G. Junction ... turn right down toward P.G. for 6 miles to Bella Vista Village … turn back from Bella Vista to the P.G. Junction and turn right back towards Independence all the way to BIG CREEK for 1 lap 

Turn back from BIG CREEK back the same way to San Juan … turn at Curva Bar …. then race back to the SENter for the finish.  (52 miles)

 

ARTICLE 2.  TYPE OF EVENT

The event is open to athletes of the M/Elite, M/U23, M/Masters, M/Juniors, M/Youths, W/Elite,  W/Masters, W/Juniors.  The event is entered on the BCA calendar. 

The event is registered as a class 2 event.  In conformity with the UCI rules, points are awarded for the BCA ranking as follows: 

Class 2 Points:

1st  40

2nd  30

3rd  16

4th  12

5th  10

6th  8

7th  6

8th  3

ARTICLE 3. PARTICIPATION

This event is open to teams with a minimum of 4 and maximum of 10 riders per team. 
 

ARTICLE 4. RACE HEADQUARTERS

The race headquarters of the race shall be open starting, Tuesday  13th October , 2009 and located at  7202 Caesar Ridge Road, Belize City at which time team representative are requested to confirm their starters. 

The Technical Meeting will be held on Thursday, October 15th – 7:00 p.m. at the Civic Center Conference Room, Belize City. 

Team representative will indicate the numbers sequence that will be used for this event.  Numbers that will be use are the ones issued at the start of the cycling season (Blue BCA numbers) 

Race Headquarters on the arrival site shall be open at 7:00 a.m. and located in the Triangular Park front of the SENter. 

ARTICLE 5. RADIO TOUR

Race information will be broadcast on the following frequency: 88.5. for the Elite and hand held for the Juniors/Youths, Female/Masters 4/5. 

ARTICLE 6. FEEDING  ZONE 

The feeding zone will be closed from the start of the event until the first 30 miles, however, riders will be allowed to drop back to their vehicle for refreshments after the first 15 miles.  The zone will be opened after the completion of the first 30 miles into the race and will be closed after 70 miles for the Elite and 40 miles for the  Juniors/Youth, Female/Masters 4/5. 

ARTICLE 7. FINISHING TIME LIMITS. 

Any rider finishing in a time exceeding that of the winner by more than 20 minutes shall not be placed.

A grand total of  $9,000.00 will be awarded in prize money at the event.   Prizes will be awarded at the end of the event. 

ARTICLE 9. AWARDS CEREMONY 

1.2.112 All riders concerned shall, in accordance with their placing, classifications and performances, participate in official ceremonies such as the presentation of jerseys, bouquets or medals, laps of honour, press conference and the like. 

1.2.113 Unless otherwise stated, riders shall appear at official ceremonies wearing competition clothing.

In accordance with article 1.2.112 of the UCI rules, the following riders must attend the official awards ceremony: 

  • The first 10 of the Elite/U23
  • The first 5 of the Juniors/Youth, Female/Masters 4/5.
 
 

ARTICLE 10. PENALTIES 

The UCI penalty scale is the only one applicable.  (For other events)
