Policies and Regulations

The following policies and regulations are in effect for the 2008 cycling season.

Membership:


  1. Riders will be categorized by the following criteria based on their age.

    • Master: riders born 1973 and before

    • Elite:  riders born 1974 to 1984 inclusive of these years

    • Under 23: riders born 1985 to 1989 inclusive of these years

    • Junior:  riders born 1990 to 1991 inclusive of these years

    • Youth:  riders born 1992 and before

    Riders born 1973 and before have the option to be registered as an Elite or Master rider at the time of registration.  Whatever option you select, will be your category for the entire year.

  2. All teams are required to register their team jersey colors and the name of their teams on or before the time of registration. The cost of team registration is $150.00

  3. It is illegal to use Foreign Teams Registered Jersey.  That is, teams are not authorized to use CSC, Discovery, etc Team Jersey as their official local team jersey. The penalty for any rider wearing such jerseys during BCA sanctioned races will be “Start denied”.

  4. Membership Registration can be done at the following authorized places:  North – Mr. De la Fuente of De la Fuente Pharmacy, Orange Walk Town; West – Ryan Garbutt of Garbutt’s Texaco, Roaring Creek; Belize City – Yvonne Robinson, Caesar Ridge Road

  5. Riders who are holders of National Championship jerseys are required to use their jersey when participating at every event in their category.


Foreign Riders:

Any local team who wishes to register a Foreign Rider with their team can do so once they make a payment of $2500; and produce the rider’s valid cycling license and copy of the individual’s passport no later than two weeks prior to the event the rider will be partaking in a race. This will entitle the team to use the registered foreign rider for any other future event in 2008. If a foreign rider is registered with a local team before December 31st, 2007 the fee shall be reduced to $2000.

Riders from Mexico and Guatemala can participate under the border town agreement.  However, local teams who use riders under this agreement are still required to pay the $2500 fee.

Only teams officially invited by the Association are not required to pay.  However, they must ride in their jersey as a foreign team.

National Team:

Selection of riders to the Belize National Team

Selection of 4 male riders:

  • 1st Belizean finisher in Cross Country
  • Winner National Road Championship
  • Next leader in points after National Championships
  • Winner of National Championships Individual Time Trial if winning average speed is greater than 28.5mph (46km/hr)

If the above criteria produce less than 4 riders then riders to make up the 4 will be selected by the National Coaches from the National Team Pool

All members of the National Team must hold a Category 2 license

National Team Pool:

    • 15 Riders Total
    • 3 minimum Junior riders

      • 1 - Previous year's Jr. Cross Country Champion
      • 1 - Previous year's Jr. Nat'l Champion
      • Rest of team selected by Nat'l Team Coaches Committee

    • 4 minimum U23 riders

      • 4 - Leading point getters from previous year

    • Up to 8 Elite/U23

      • 1 - First Belizean in Cross Country Classic
      • 1 - National Champion
      • 1 - National ITT Champion
      • 1 - Krem Classic Winner
      • 1 - Valentine's Winner
      • 1 - M&M Tour Winner
      • 1 - Belmopan Classic Winner
      • Rest of team selected by Nat'l Team Coaches Committee


Cyclist of the Year:

Points for the Cyclists of the Year will be given only for races listed below.  There will be other races, but these races will not be used for the awarding of points.

  • Please note the above is the official cycling calendar for the first half of the season.  There will be other races including the weekly Saturday Races, where one week will be for Individual Time Trial Competition.

  • Junior and Novice riders will not be allowed to participate in the Holy Saturday Cross Country Classic.
  • Juniors can participate in any race outside their category, once the distance is within 80 miles and they maintain their gear ratio restriction.

Cyclist of the year shall be awarded in the following categories:

  • Overall Male Cyclist of the Year

  • Female Cyclist of the Year

  • Junior Cyclist of the Year

  • Masters Cyclist of the Year

Radio Policy:

The use of radio communications devices is permitted in the Elite Female Cross Country and Elite Men "Calendar" events only.  It is strictly forbidden in all Junior events, Elite Female events other than the Cross Country, and non-calendar Elite Male events.
